The Alice Ground Truth Method

We go beyond the report

Alice combines field research, human insight and senior strategic judgement to understand what is actually happening inside organisations, investments and operating environments. We see past the formal presentation to the relationships, behaviours and hidden dynamics that shape real outcomes.

Human-led. Ground-level. Strategically useful.

The gap

Important decisions are often made using incomplete realities

What is presented

Reports, structures, policies, interviews and formal narratives.

What may be happening

Relationships, behaviours, informal influence, local pressures and contradictions.

Traditional research can tell you what is documented, reported or formally presented. It may not reveal how decisions are really made, who holds influence without formal authority, where official accounts differ from lived reality, how people behave outside formal meetings, which tensions are visible locally but absent from reports, or whether a strategy, investment or organisation works as described. Alice closes this gap by combining structured research with direct human exposure and experienced interpretation.

The method

The Alice Ground Truth Method

The Alice Ground Truth Method is our proprietary approach to understanding complex environments through people, relationships, observation and strategic interpretation. It combines structured research, network-led field movement, natural human-first conversation, direct observation, stakeholder and influence mapping, continuous testing of assumptions, and senior-level synthesis. We do not rely on one interview, one source or one official narrative. We build understanding progressively, moving across networks, comparing perspectives and observing how systems behave in practice.

We do not only research an environment. We gradually become present within it.

The sequence and the internal frameworks for access, observation, verification and interpretation are proprietary to Alice.

The sequence

How the method works

  1. 01

    Orient

We begin with the decision behind the assignment, and identify what is known, what is assumed, what is missing and what needs closer attention.

  2. 02

    Enter

We enter the environment through people, relationships and credible local access, creating the conditions for genuine contact and observation rather than a rigid sequence of formal interviews.

  3. 03

    Move

One conversation leads to another. We move across stakeholder groups, organisations, social settings and informal networks, building a broader picture of the environment.

  4. 04

    Test

We compare what people say, what others say, what we observe and what the records show, and we test emerging conclusions continuously rather than accepting them too early.

  5. 05

    Interpret

We translate fragmented information into clear judgement, explaining the patterns, relationships, risks and implications that matter to the decision.

Why it is different

Research built around human reality

Human-first engagement

+

We create conversations in which people speak naturally, which often reveals more than rigid or formal questioning.

In practice, this means meeting people where they are comfortable, and listening for what is said in passing as much as what is said on the record.

Network-led access

+

Our work develops through relationships and introductions, reaching people and perspectives that rarely appear on a conventional stakeholder list.

Access is earned, not requested. One trusted introduction opens the next, and the map of who matters grows from the inside.

Social agility

+

We move comfortably between senior leadership, employees, advisers, operational teams, local communities and informal networks.

The same situation looks different from the boardroom and the factory floor. We spend time in both.

Observation beyond the meeting room

+

We attend to behaviour, routines, surroundings, language and the details that are easily overlooked.

How a place is run is often written in its habits long before it appears in its reports.

Multiple perspectives

+

No single account is treated as definitive. We compare perspectives and find where experiences, interests and narratives align or diverge.

Where accounts diverge is often where the most useful understanding begins.

Strategic interpretation

+

Field insight matters when it is connected to the client's decision. We turn observation into structured judgement, not description.

The question is never only what is happening, but what it means for the choice in front of you.
What we notice

A founder who is never interrupted. A policy everyone praises but no one can quite locate. A supplier who is always paid first. The detail that explains a system is rarely the detail in the report.

People

Influence, relationships, behaviour and reputation.

Organisation

Culture, governance, leadership and accountability.

Operations

Reality on the ground, dependencies and the gap between policy and practice.

Context

Local sentiment, social exposure, environmental conditions and external pressures.

The team

Field understanding. Senior judgement.

The strength of Alice lies in the combination of two complementary capabilities. We connect what is happening on the ground with what it means for leadership, ownership, governance and the organisation.

Samuel

Field research and ground-level insight

Samuel leads Alice's human-first field research. His work combines rapid integration into unfamiliar environments, relationship-led access, natural and non-confrontational conversation, cross-cultural communication, direct observation, and stakeholder and influence mapping. His approach is informed by anthropological thinking and extensive international experience. He does not enter an environment simply to conduct interviews. He listens, observes, follows relationships and gradually develops a grounded understanding of how the environment works.

Rasmus

Strategic, organisational and leadership expertise

Rasmus brings the senior perspective needed to understand what the findings mean for an organisation, owner or decision-maker. His expertise spans organisational dynamics, leadership and executive decision-making, governance and accountability, sustainability and compliance, family-owned and owner-led organisations, succession and legacy, and reputational and strategic exposure. He connects field findings to the wider organisational, governance and strategic context, and turns complex material into practical executive judgement.

What it means for the decision

Samuel gets close enough to understand the reality. Rasmus helps determine what that reality means.

On the ground, where understanding is built
Where it is used

Designed for decisions where context matters

Before investing

Understanding the people, operating reality, local reputation and hidden dependencies surrounding an investment, acquisition or partnership.

Within a family business or office

Exploring governance, relationships, succession, informal power and the alignment between ownership intention and organisational reality.

Before entering a market

Building a grounded understanding of how an unfamiliar environment operates, beyond published market information.

When reputation is at stake

Identifying behaviours, relationships, contradictions or local perceptions that may create future exposure.

During organisational change

Understanding how leadership decisions are interpreted and experienced across an organisation.

When commitments must be real

Testing whether stated commitments on sustainability or compliance are reflected in everyday practice, incentives and relationships.

What you receive

From scattered information to clear judgement

  • An executive ground-truth assessment
  • Stakeholder and influence maps
  • Key findings and emerging patterns
  • The contradictions and information gaps we found
  • A view of reputational and organisational exposure
  • Selected field observations
  • The strategic questions leadership should consider
  • A clear sense of where to proceed, where to pause and where to look harder

You do not receive a collection of disconnected observations. Alice brings the evidence together into a concise, decision-led view of what matters, why it matters and where further attention may be required.

How we work

Careful, proportionate, discreet

Not a conventional site visit

Not a pre-arranged sequence of corporate interviews
Not a compliance checklist or survey exercise
Not a generic market report
Not a short visit to confirm an existing view
Not an attempt to produce false certainty

What guides us

Confidentiality and proportionality
Respect for people and context
Evidence-led judgement
A clear separation between observation and conclusion
Honesty about uncertainty and information gaps

We do not overstate what the evidence can support.

See what the formal picture leaves out

When the quality of a decision depends on understanding people, relationships and operating reality, conventional research may not be enough. Alice provides the human context behind the information, and the judgement required to use it.
